This tutorial was written using JASC's Paint Shop Pro version 7.02. Don't forget to either use the AUTO SAVE feature in PSP 7 and higher (File, Preferences, Auto Save Settings) and/or save your work often! ;-)
1. Open a NEW IMAGE, 600 x 400, TRANSPARENT. Go to VIEW, RULERS so the Rulers will show on the top and left side of your image.
2. On the COLOR PALETTE, set the Background/Fill to a Medium Purple Color - I used color #A986A9. Set the Foreground/Stroke to NULL, set the two Texture buttons to NULL, and make sure there is a check mark beside the word LOCK.
3. On the TOOL PALETTE, click on the PRESET SHAPES TOOL. In the TOOL OPTIONS PALETTE, choose the ELLIPSE shape, Retain Style NOT checked, Antialias CHECKED, Create as Vector NOT checked, Line Width 1, Line Style #1 Solid.
4. On your blank canvas, click and drag with the LEFT mouse button to place a round/oval shape.
5. Go to SELECTIONS, SELECT ALL then SELECTIONS, FLOAT. The shape will now be "selected" and show the "marching ants". Leave selected. Go to LAYERS, NEW RASTER LAYER. Accept the default settings and click OK. Leave selected.
6. Go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, CUTOUT. Set Offsets Vertical to 6, Horizontal to 10, Opacity to 85, Blur to 30, Shadow Color to a dark purple (I used color #643066), Fill Interior with Color NOT checked, click OK. Leave selected.
Again, go to LAYERS, NEW RASTER LAYER. Accept the default settings and click OK. Go to EFFECTS, 3D EFFECTS, CUTOUT - use the same settings EXCEPT change the Vertical to -6 and the Horizontal to -10. Click OK. Leave selected.
7. Go to SELECTIONS, SAVE TO ALPHA CHANNEL. Click OK then OK again when the next two windows open. Then go to SELECTIONS, SELECT NONE.
8. On the COLOR PALETTE, change the Background/Fill color to a very light purple - I used color #D9C6D9.
9. Again from the TOOL PALETTE click on the PRESET SHAPES TOOL, and using the same settings in the Tool Options Palette as before, EXCEPT make a check mark beside CREATE AS VECTOR.
10. Click & drag with the left mouse button on top of the shape you already have, this time making a smaller ellipse/circle in the center. Resize this inside shape as needed, then go to LAYERS, CONVERT TO RASTER.
11. Go to EFFECTS, BLUR, GAUSSIAN BLUR. Set the Radius to 8.00 and click OK.
12. Go to LAYERS, MERGE, MERGE VISIBLE. Go to SELECTIONS, LOAD FROM ALPHA CHANNEL and click OK. Go to SELECTIONS, INVERT and hit the DELETE KEY on your keyboard. Then go to SELECTIONS, SELECT NONE. Guess what - you made a grape!
13. Go to EDIT, COPY then EDIT, PASTE AS NEW IMAGE.
14. Go to FILE, EXPORT, PICTURE TUBE. Accept the default settings, type in a name for your tube, then click OK. Close all images that are open on your workspace.
15. Open a NEW IMAGE, 600 x 400, TRANSPARENT.
16. Go to LAYERS, NEW RASTER LAYER, accept the default settings and click OK.
17. On the TOOL PALETTE, click on the PICTURE TUBE TOOL (the little ink well with paintbrush). In the TOOL OPTIONS PALETTE, locate the single grape tube you saved earlier. Set the Scale to the size you want depending on how large you made the single grape - I set mine to a Scale of 50.
18. Now you can place the single grape tube down several times to form a cluster of grapes. I also used the Deformation Tool from the Tool Palette to make my single grape a little more round. Then use the Deformation Tool again to "tilt" the cluster a bit. Now you can add a few leaves and vines behind the grapes, then go to LAYERS, MERGE, MERGE VISIBLE and you are done! Make a few different bunches of grapes or even grapes in different colors - just remember to HAVE FUN! ;-)
